Flu (influenza) is an acute illness caused by influenza viruses. When the virus enters the body, it affects the upper respiratory tract, trachea, bronchi, and sometimes the lungs. Children, older adults, and people with chronic conditions are at the greatest risk of getting seriously ill from flu.
